Teera
Teera (Shoulder Width)
Shoulder width measurement in Indian garment drafting
Tailoring Drafting Rule
Deduct 2.0 to 2.5 inches from half-shoulder on deep necklines to prevent shoulder slipping.
What is Teera in Tailoring?
In Indian garment cutting, Teera refers to the cross-shoulder measurement taken across the upper back from shoulder tip to shoulder tip.
How to Measure Teera:
- Measure across the high back between the prominent shoulder bone points.
- Standard adult female shoulder width spans between 13.5 to 15.0 inches.
- For folded pattern cutting, divide by 2 (e.g., 14” divided by 2 = 7”).
The Golden Rule of Teera:
- On deep back necklines (8” to 11” depth), the fabric pulls outward. You must narrow the cut Teera from 7” down to 5.0 - 5.25 inches to maintain shoulder grip without falling off the body.
