Tak / Dart
Tak / Dart (Contour Dart)
Tapered stitched fold shaping flat textiles to human anatomy
Tailoring Drafting Rule
Maintain a 1.5" to 2" radial clearance from the bust apex point on all 4 bodice darts.
Understanding Darts (Tak) in Tailoring
A Dart (Tak) is a wedge-shaped fold stitched into fabric to convert a flat plane into a three-dimensional contour conforming to body curves.
The 4 Darts of Classic Blouses:
- Waist Dart: Deepest dart (0.75” to 1.0” uptake) shaping the underbust.
- Center Front Placket Dart: Horizontal stabilization dart (0.25” uptake).
- Armhole Dart: Radiates from the armhole curve to remove armpit slack.
- Side Seam Dart: Directs fabric inward from the lateral torso seam.
- Rule: All four dart points must terminate 1.5 to 2 inches away from the apex circle to avoid unseemly conical peaks.
